The Queensland Police Service’s Media Operations team offers one of the most dynamic media roles in Queensland. If you would like a front-row seat to some of Queensland’s most intriguing complex criminal investigations, advising police officers to help achieve operational outcomes and being a conduit to all aspects of crime and public safety messaging to the community then this role is for you.

Your Key Accountabilities

The core capability requirements for this role are:

  • Lead small teams in the management of media issues or public affairs projects and in the preparation and production of publications.
  • Prepare and implement communication, media or marketing plans.
  • Liaise with Queensland Police Service (QPS) employees, media representatives and representatives of other government departments to provide efficient dissemination of information and promotion of relevant QPS information inside the Service and to the public.
  • Assist in developing and delivering media and communication training courses for members of the QPS.
  • Provide policy direction and advice on day-to-day media and public affairs issues to subordinate staff.
  • Prepare material for use in media campaigns, publicity programs and internal information campaigns.
  • Assist in the preparation of news releases, speech notes, talking points and briefing material for use by members of the QPS executive and the Minister's office.


Role Requirements

Qualification

  • Applicants with formal qualifications and/or experience in journalism and public affairs will be favourably considered.


Technical/ Operational/ Educational experience

  • Applicants are advised that the occupant of this position will be required to participate in a 24x7 roster. (Brisbane Media Operations Room (MOR) Police Headquarters)
  • Applicants with media and public affairs experience in community safety portfolios, such as disaster management, crisis communications, State Emergency Services or Marine Rescue will be favourably considered.


Other

  • The appointee may work regular shifts at the State Disaster Coordination Centre, Kedron and Queensland Police HQ, Brisbane. The appointee may be required to work evening and weekend shifts during periods of a declared disaster at the SDCC.
