Requirements For This Role
A tertiary qualification in journalism, communications, marketing, or similar discipline is desirable and relevant professional experience is essential.
Key Accountabilities
- Raise RSHQ's profile with industry and external audiences, and deliver high quality, engaging and accurate media materials.
- Develop and deliver a strategy and plan of proactive media outputs for RSHQ.
- Proactive and strategic identification of potential media stories and opportunities for RSHQ.
- Provide high-level strategic and timely advice to the Communications Manager, CEO and other RSHQ Board members on key media activities and strategy.
- Research, write and distribute media releases and responses, develop public facing communication materials including speeches, articles, newsletters, safety alerts, social media, films, and interviews.
- Take media enquiries and provide timely and accurate responses.
- Build strong relationships with Board members and internal subject matter experts, as well as key external stakeholders including the Minister's Office and other Queensland Government agencies and industry.
- Media monitoring, analysis, and reporting - staying up to date with the rapidly evolving news cycle in order to identify strategic, proactive and reactive media opportunities and mobilise timely responses.

- Developing relationships with media contacts, pitching stories to specific journalists, outlets, and audiences.
- Provide media training to RSHQ Board and spokespeople.
- Supporting RSHQ's other communication objectives including production of high-quality content and materials as required for internal and external stakeholders (for example, briefing papers, correspondence, staff updates, publications, and other documents for internal and external stakeholders).
- Contribute to the leadership of communications team, working collaboratively and providing mentoring to other team members on development of media materials.
- Demonstrated experience in journalism and ability to write produce engaging and accurate media material in various formats for a wide range of complex issues.
- Demonstrated experience working with executive leaders to identify and capitalise on media opportunities that positively promote their programs, projects and initiatives to customers and the community.
- Demonstrated experience in responding to reactive media and crisis media.
- High level of judgement in providing advice and communicating in a highly scrutinised operational environment.
- Demonstrated ability to build and sustain positive relationships with key state, national and international media.
- High level oral and written communication skills.
- Outstanding attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong organisational, resource and time management skills.
