Salary: AU70,000 - AU85,000 + super, dependent on experience
The Touchstone Group is a private, boutique funds-management group focused on investment and philanthropy. Our investment activities range across property and the financial markets with a particular focus on global equities.
The Group also supports Aeon Media, a registered charity that publishes two online magazines and runs an international events program. Aeon has offices in Melbourne, London and New York.
We are seeking an Assistant Accountant to support the day-to-day operations of the finance function. This role is well suited to someone looking to build their career in accounting, gain exposure to financial reporting and compliance, and develop within a collaborative and supportive team environment.
The Role
The position reports to the Head of Finance, based in Melbourne.
Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
· Assist with the preparation and maintenance of financial statements in line with accounting standards
· Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely and accurate processing
· Perform bank and credit card reconciliations and monitor transactional cash balances
· Support monthly, quarterly and annual reporting, including month-end and year-end close activities
· Prepare journals, reconciliations and maintain the fixed asset register
· Assist with tax returns, statutory compliance and audit processes
· Support budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis
· Assist with payroll processing and related tasks as required
· Maintain accurate and well-organised accounting records and documentation
· Perform general administrative tasks relating to accounting and property assets
· Contribute to process improvements and provide ad hoc support to the Head of Finance
What you will need to succeed
· A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline (completed or near completion)
· Currently undertaking, or intending to pursue, a professional accounting qualification (eg, CA or CPA) (will be considered favourably)
· 3+ years’ experience in an accounting or finance role
· A sound understanding of accounting principles and basic financial reporting
· Experience with accounts payable/receivable and general ledger processes
· Proficiency with accounting software (eg, Xero, QuickBooks or similar) and intermediate skills in Excel, Word and Outlook
· Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
· Ability to analyse information, problem-solve and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
· A high level of integrity and ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· A positive, team-oriented attitude with the ability to work independently when required
