We are seeking a strategic Principal Project Officer to lead initiatives that build school staff capability, develop effective processes for engaging community and specialist services, and strengthen school partnerships across the Darling Downs South West region.

In this role, you will advise on and support the development and implementation of capability-building resources that enable schools to confidently engage with external supports to promote cultural safety, belonging, and positive wellbeing outcomes for refugee and EAL/D students.

Your Role

  • Based at the Toowoomba Regional Office the Principal Project Officer - Refugee and EAL/D Partnerships role will drive strategic initiatives that develop staff capability, frameworks, and partnerships so schools can consistently implement whole school approaches to social–emotional wellbeing for refugee and EAL/D cohorts, aligned with the Student Learning and Wellbeing Framework.
  • Building transition capability in schools for refugee children and families, in partnership with external supports, by developing and embedding culturally safe referral pathways that promote safety and wellbeing; enabling schools to confidently connect with community and specialist services; and systemising processes for sustainable, coordinated engagement
  • Building capability in schools through professional learning, coaching, and resources that strengthen staff capacity to implement whole-school approaches to social-emotional wellbeing and culturally responsive practices.
  • Strategic connections to communities by fostering strong school –family–community partnerships that promote inclusion, cultural responsiveness, and a sense of belonging, including initiatives informed by culturally inclusive strategies and Department of Education data sources.


Responsibilities Include

  • Principal Project Officer - Refugee and EAL/D Partnerships has responsibility for the following:
  • Develop and implement culturally responsive, whole school processes and referral pathways that enable schools to connect and collaborate with community and specialist services.
  • Design and deliver professional learning, coaching, tools and resources that build staff capability to support the wellbeing and engagement of refugee and EAL/D students.
  • Coordinate schooled partnerships and communities of practice with community organisations and specialist services to promote safe, inclusive and culturally responsive practice.
  • Support schools to use departmental data and frameworks to inform wellbeing approaches and identify strengths, needs and priorities.
  • Prepare high-quality advice and documentation (project plans, reports, briefing notes, guidance materials) that help schools embed sustainable, whole school wellbeing practices.
  • Other suitable duties, consistent with the responsibilities of the position as directed by the supervisor or delegate.
