Queensland's courts sit at the frontline of public trust. Every day, they shape how people experience justice, fairness and access to essential services. Luminary Partners is proud to partner with the Department of Justice in the search for a Senior Director, Court Operations and Deputy Principal Registrar - a role of exceptional scale, visibility and public impact. This executive will lead Queensland's largest frontline court network across six regions and 52 locations, guiding more than 1,600 staff through a period of significant reform and modernisation.

The Department of Justice plays a pivotal role in building a fair, safe and inclusive Queensland. Its work spans courts and tribunals, victim support, consumer protection and community safety, with a strong focus on protecting vulnerable people, reducing the over-representation of First Nations people in the justice system, addressing domestic and family violence, and minimising gambling harm. Court and Tribunal Services is one of the department's most complex operational arms, supporting the independent judiciary and ensuring the daily functioning of Magistrates', District, Supreme and Land Courts, the Coroners' Court and QCAT. The division is now focused on strengthening digital access, lifting workforce capability and ensuring court services are future-ready for a rapidly growing state.

Reporting to the Assistant Director-General and Principal Registrar, the Senior Director, Court Operations, and Deputy Principal Registrar hold executive accountability for registry services, court operations, workforce management, financial stewardship, and performance improvement. This is a role that blends strategic leadership with hands-on operational responsibility, requiring the ability to lead large, geographically dispersed frontline teams while driving system-wide reform and service excellence.

Working alongside judicial officers and Heads of Jurisdiction, you will operate within the unique environment of the judicial arm of government and exercise statutory powers under the Magistrates Courts Act and the Justices Act. You will bring a strong systems perspective to reform, embed contemporary service delivery models, strengthen governance and risk management, and lift organisational performance across a complex, high-profile operation.

This opportunity will suit a senior executive with a proven track record leading large service delivery organisations through transformation. You will bring exceptional stakeholder capability, sound judgement and a strong governance mindset, alongside a people-centred leadership style that values inclusion, cultural capability and psychological safety. For the right leader, this is a rare opportunity to shape the future of Queensland's justice system and leave a lasting legacy of access to justice, service excellence and community trust.
