The Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC) is seeking an experienced Senior Review Officer to uphold the privacy rights of Queenslanders. In this role you will be responsible for managing external review applications and supporting delegated decision makers to conduct independent, fair, and timely merits reviews under the Right to Information Act 2009 (RTI Act) and the Information Privacy Act 2009 (IP Act).

The OIC is an independent statutory body with powers under the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld) ( RTI Act ) and Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld) ( IP Act ) to promote and regulate access to government-held information and protect people's personal information held by the public sector.

Our purpose, as a contemporary regulator, is to promote and independently uphold information access and privacy rights. We facilitate greater and easier public access to government-held information and assist agencies understand their obligations under the IP Act to safeguard the personal information that they hold. Our office reviews agency decisions about access to information, mediates privacy complaints, and monitors and reports on agency compliance to Parliament.

About The Role

You will be responsible for conducting independent external review of decisions made by Queensland government agencies under the Right to Information Act 2009 . Duties include assessing the merits of both routine and complex applications, managing a case load with limited supervision, engaging with review participants to explore opportunities for informal resolution and preparing clear and concise reasons for decision where informal resolution cannot be achieved. You will also provide guidance and mentoring to Review Officers.
