Description:

The Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) is an independent statutory body set up to combat and reduce the incidence of major crime and corruption in the Queensland's public sector. The CCC investigates crime and corruption, and has oversight of the public sector including police. The CCC also has responsibility for restraining and recovering suspected proceeds of crime and administers Queensland's witness protection program. Its functions and powers are set out in the Crime and Corruption Act 2001. This lawyer position is in the CCC's Corruption Division. You will be required to provide high quality and timely legal services and support to the Corruption Division, including Corruption Investigations, Intake and Assessment and Corruption Prevention and Engagement.

About You

The ideal applicant will demonstrate capability in the following requirements:

For this role, we will consider how well you demonstrate:

  • Practising experience that demonstrates the following:
    • thorough knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire thorough knowledge, of the Crime and Corruption Act 2001 , the Criminal Code Act 1899 , the Police Powers and Responsibilities Act 2000, the Telecommunications (Interception and Access) Act 1979 (Cth) and other relevant legislation;
    • knowledge and experience in areas of law relevant to the CCC's work, including criminal law, employment law (including workplace investigations), public sector and local government; and
    • advocacy experience in civil, criminal or quasi-criminal litigation in Queensland and/or Australian courts or tribunals.
  • The ability to analyse complex legal and factual issues to make high quality decisions and judgments and provide expert legal advice.
  • High level verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare written advice, Briefs of Evidence, court documents, legal observations and complex reports and correspondence within tight deadlines and while maintaining objectivity and independence in providing advice.
  • Demonstrated capacity to:
    • work autonomously and co-operatively in an in-house legal team, and to liaise and consult effectively with other officers in the Commission and with external stakeholders, including the Queensland Police Service and Units of Public Administration; and
    • establish priorities, develop sound solutions and participate in the development of improvement to work practices.
