At the Department of Customer Services, Open Data and Small and Family Business (CDSB), we are improving customer services to Queenslanders, supporting small and family business owners, and providing better government services and support. We ensure customer-focused, effective and accessible engagement with government for Queenslanders, small and family business owners and other government agencies. We are responsible for driving the Queensland Government's priorities in customer service delivery, digital technology, and data that enables a transparent and efficient government.

You will be at the forefront of excellence in customer service, data-driven and digital solutions. You will support the needs of small and family businesses and push the boundaries of digital adoption. You will work in an environment where every interaction counts by putting our customers first.

Your role

The Strategy, Planning and Performance team within CDSB operates to enhance the department's capacity to influence across the Queensland Government, build strategic planning, reporting and policy capability, set the governance and assurance frameworks for the department and coordinate the provision of internal audit services. As a key member of the team, you will provide leadership in the delivery of high-quality outputs and remain accountable for fostering an engaged and productive team.

Your Responsibilities

As the Manager (Risk & Assurance), you will:

  • oversee the analysis and preparation of timely, accurate and informative reporting on governance, assurance and risk matters to provide strategic insights to executives, senior management and departmental committees, while monitoring opportunities and threats in a demanding and changing operating environment and identifying potential emerging risks
  • embed a positive, risk aware culture and strong accountability principles through mechanisms that build competency and awareness across the agency, including facilitating discussions, workshops and a risk community of practice
  • provide influential advice and support to executives and departmental staff on contemporary risk management and governance practices
  • drive opportunities for continual improvement to achieve a contemporary operating environment which applies best practice approaches to risk management and governance and seeks to achieve an integrated approach with strategic and operational planning and performance monitoring activities
  • build effective working relationships within the department, with central agencies and other departments and agencies and professionally represent the interests of the department
  • develop and implement assurance frameworks by:
  • leading and enhancing the capability of a small team for delivery of an ongoing second line of defence assurance program across all products and regions.
  • identifying business improvement opportunities and making recommendations.
  • aligning assurance programs, operational controls, and business risks more effectively
  • enhance efficiency in the assurance process by adopting digital solutions and prioritising automation opportunities for the first and second lines of defence assurance programs.
  • ensure SCO has appropriate governance frameworks for effective management of business risks and assurance activities.

To thrive in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:

  • Experience in designing and implementing governance, risk management, performance reporting and assurance frameworks.
  • Experience in leading and mentoring a small team of subject matter experts to maximise the efficient and effective delivery of governance and risk management support and services and fostering of a collaborative work environment.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively liaise, negotiate and influence.
  • Ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships to facilitate positive working relationships and partnerships with colleagues, key stakeholders.
