AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. In this role you are leading a software team responsible for the safety of deploying change to the entire AWS Network.

You are joining a high performing team interacting closely with three other software teams based in Sydney. We are part of a software group with teams in Dublin, Seattle, San Jose and Sydney and collaborate regularly across geography, including quarterly travel.

Your customers are AWS Network Development Engineers, located globally, with many base in Sydney. Having internal customers in the same building, gives you access to key insights to make your services successful.

Key job responsibilities
Lead an established high performing team to deliver critical safety services for AWS network deployments.

Lead your team to design and deliver enhancements to services that model the impact of changes on network health, with high accuracy and precision, with the goal to enable faster and safer change.

Our investment plan for 2026 underpins AWS's commitment to security requirements in applying OS updates to network devices, as well as supporting new network designs such as those for ML.

A day in the life
- Manage sprint planning for your in-flight projects.
- Prepare a project report for Director level review.
- Review a high level solution design and coordinate its review with key stakeholders.
- Lead a review of operational metrics to ensure continued improvement in the security, availability and effectiveness of services you own.

Requirements:

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of engineering experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
