Your role within Building Policy will support the department to provide services relating to the built environment, such as setting policy and standards, administering legislation and codes, research and advice on industry trends, and partnerships with stakeholders to influence the direction of the building industry. The work you will do helps someone every day, and that means the world to us.
Your role will support the department to provide housing assistance, homelessness support services, public works building and design and industry regulatory reform.
What You Will Be Doing
Assist with the development and implementation of strategic policy relating to the building and construction sector. Contribute to or prepare high level documentation such as Cabinet Submissions, Ministerial Briefing Notes, Executive Council Minutes, speeches, Regulatory Impact Statements, Drafting Instructions and explanatory notes. Represent the Department's interests and provide leadership at state levels as required on forums, groups and committees. Prepare high quality written and oral advice to internal and external stakeholders on on:
- National building policy and legislation, to facilitate improved decision making and advancing the interest of the State;
- Related legislation and standards and their impact on industry and the community; and
- Methods of implementing government policy objectives relating to building and development.
- Undertake research into the continuous improvement of Queensland building legislation and standards, ensuring they are aligned with national, international and built environment development trends.
- Instruct the Office of the Queensland Parliamentary Counsel on Bills and Regulations.
- Lead discussions with internal and external stakeholders to support the delivery of policy outcomes and agreed priorities.
- Analyse, interpret and apply legislation, codes and standards, particularly related to building and plumbing:
- Develop and update industry documentation and educational material.
- Promote and maintain a high performance and continuous improvement-oriented culture, consistent with the department's values, employment equity and workplace health and safety principles and practices.
