Description:
Sedgman is seeking a Data Engineer to join our Operations team in Brisbane. This role plays a key part in designing, building and maintaining scalable data solutions that enable reporting, analytics and decision‑making across the business. The position is primarily Brisbane based, but the availability for candidates to undertake an occasional site visit is a pre-requisite for the position.
About the Role
As a Data Engineer, you will provide technical expertise across the full data lifecycle from data integration and pipeline development through to analytics and business intelligence solutions. Working within an agile data team, you will deliver proof‑of‑concepts, pilots and production ready solutions that support a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
You will report to the Senior BI Analyst and work closely with data specialists across Sedgman and other CIMIC operating companies.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Design, build and maintain scalable and resilient databases, data pipelines and data models
- Plan and execute sprints using Agile and DevOps methodologies
- Develop and deploy data pipelines and models, maintaining and improving DevOps processes
- Ensure compliance with data governance and data security requirements
- Support cloud platforms by monitoring availability, latency and system health
- Contribute to multi‑regional data strategy planning and execution
- Collaborate with Data Engineers and Data Scientists across CIMIC operating companies
- Maintain up to date knowledge of data engineering practices, tools and technologies
- Prepare documentation in line with company templates and processes
- Actively contribute to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the team
About You
You will bring:
- A tertiary qualification in Information Technology or Computer Science
- 3–5 years’ experience in data engineering, data management or software development
- Strong skills in data modelling, database design and ETL/ELT processes
- Experience designing and supporting data pipelines on cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure
- Strong programming and scripting skills (SQL, Python, PowerShell, R, Java or Node.js)
- Experience working with MS SQL Server, Data Warehouses, Azure Data Factory and blob storage
- Experience working with large and diverse data formats (CSV, XML, JSON, Web APIs)
- Understanding of CI/CD practices, DevOps and containerisation
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Office 365 and Power BI
- Strong communication, collaboration and problem‑solving skills
- High attention to detail and the ability to manage priorities effectively
Desirable Experience
Experience in the following will be highly regarded:
- Microsoft Copilot Studio or OpenAI Services
- Microsoft Power Platform and Fabric
- Databricks or Azure ML
- REST APIs
- Mining or minerals processing environments
