Job Description

About the role

Sydney Airport is hiring a Development Manager to join the Freight team. As Development Manager, you’ll lead early-stage project planning, including business case development and pre-construction activities. You’ll work closely with internal teams and support the Freight Team in delivering a major project made up of several sub-projects.

Reporting to the Senior Project Director, you’ll be responsible for leading and supporting a skilled team and key stakeholders to progress the SYD Freight business cases. This includes preparing for Board approval and overseeing commercial planning, negotiation strategies, and implementation.

Please note this is a 24-month contract.

As Development Manager, you’ll lead the creation and management of project objectives, benefits, and success measures, translating them into strong business cases. You’ll oversee financial assessments, including cost-benefit analysis and modelling (NPV, IRR, sensitivity analysis), and coordinate input from key internal teams such as Finance, Legal, Operations, Property, Planning, Risk, and Airlines. Your role includes managing risks and opportunities, planning project costs and funding, and ensuring alignment across workstreams. You’ll also handle stakeholder approvals, maintain internal and external reporting, and oversee quality control and handover processes.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will bring proven experience in developing high-value business cases, securing executive endorsement, and managing complex stakeholder relationships across competing priorities. You will have a strong track record in preparing commercial and financial reports for large-scale projects, overseeing multiple programs, and delivering aviation or logistics-related freight and warehouse developments from planning through to implementation. A qualification in Property Economics, Engineering, or Construction is essential, with additional credentials in aviation/logistics capital works, project management, or financial modelling considered highly desirable.
