This position is only open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates as a genuine occupational requirement to assist with developing and delivering the ATSIS Unit's strategic direction and operations in line with the University’s Indigenous Engagement strategies.

This is a full-time fixed term position through to August 2026 with salary in the range $115,645 - $129,654 (HEW 8), plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%.

Provide high-level support to the Director of the ATSIS Unit, driving strategic initiatives and managing a team of professionals dedicated to Indigenous Engagement.

Based at our St Lucia campus
As Manager, this pivotal role provides high-level support to the Director of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (ATSIS) Unit. The position assists in developing and delivering the ATSIS Unit's strategic direction and operations, aligning with UQ's Indigenous Engagement strategies, relevant legislation, and University policy. This role also involves the day-to-day management of a team of professionals delivering diverse programs, services, and activities aimed at achieving specific unit goals.
Key responsibilities will include:
Team Leadership and Service Excellence

Lead and manage the Unit's Student Services and Outreach and Engagement teams, fostering a clear focus on excellent client service and communication. Continuously assess and implement opportunities for efficiencies, development, and improvement in service delivery.
Strategic Planning and Resource Management

Set, monitor, and regularly review long and short-term goals and strategies to support the Unit's needs and developments. Coordinate the management of physical and human resources to ensure efficient and high-standard service delivery for students from pre-admission to graduation.
Stakeholder Engagement and Student Success

Cultivate and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues in schools and central units. Actively participate in activities to increase student outreach, retention, and satisfaction.
Director Support and Representation

Provide support and advice to the Director on student experience matters, working collaboratively to implement ATSISU projects and strategies. Represent the Director and the Division at various external and internal events and committees, and coordinate reporting to grantors and donors.

Degree/qualification coupled with extensive relevant experience. Proven track record in management and demonstrate the ability to facilitate the implementation of initiatives, programs, and strategies across diverse stakeholders.

Possess excellent business planning, resource management, and reporting skills. Demonstrate a track record of both service excellence and achieving strategic and operational goals related to students and student education programs in the higher education sector.

Require outstanding stakeholder management skills, with a proven track record of fostering and maintaining strong and successful internal and external networks. Demonstrate effective planning and organizational skills, including the ability to coordinate diverse functions and activities to achieve objectives within complex organizational structures.

Possess proven leadership qualities and the ability to foster a positive and productive workplace culture, upholding the University's values and demonstrating outstanding personal qualities of openness, respectfulness, and integrity. Require excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate effectively, lead a team, and communicate with clarity both verbally and in writing.
You must maintain unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment, and may be required to complete background checks including, criminal history and education checks. Employer sponsored work rights are not available for this appointment.
