We are supporting every primary, special and secondary state school in Queensland to implement behaviour management strategies.
The Director, School and Regional Capability (Behaviour), will join the Student Support Branch to lead a number of projects that support student behaviour, including the development, delivery and evaluation of a suite of professional learning resources for all school staff.
The role has an immediate start and is available until 30 June 2027, unless otherwise determined. The base location of this role is Central Office, Brisbane.

Your Responsibilities
You will have responsibility for leading the following activities and undertaking the following key tasks:
- Manage and coordinate business and project planning functions and provide strategic input into portfolio planning and reporting.
- Provide high level support and advice to senior departmental officers including preparation of project material in relation to client focused service delivery options across the division.
- prepare, have oversight of and provide advice on high level submissions, reports, papers, statements, briefings and correspondence on complex issues related to the state schooling sector.
- Respond to and coordinate responses to complex and sensitive issues and complaints on behalf of the Ministers Office, Director-General and other agencies.
- Provide advice and guidance on the development and implementation of strategies, policies and procedures in relation to the management of executive services, parliamentary inquiries, correspondence, complaints management, communication, governance arrangements, research and projects.
- Foster collaborative relationships across the department and with external stakeholders.
- Manage, coordinate and undertake high level research and analysis activities to support business priorities and the provision of advice to senior officers.
- Lead, manage and develop a team of professional staff to deliver outcomes.
- Foster an ethical and safe work environment that emphasises client service and a focus on outcomes and encourages commitment, flexibility, innovation, responsiveness, acceptance of responsibility, accountability, continuous improvement, skills development and professional growth.
- Undertake other duties as required to enable Schools and Student Support Division objectives to be achieved.
- Demonstrated effectiveness undertaking leadership roles in complex and sensitive environments;
- Demonstrated ability to provide accurate and timely advice often within tight timeframes;
- Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills, in a complex environment where there are multiple and sometimes competing agendas;
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically and present a range of solutions to complex issues;
- Demonstrated ability to gather information from a range of sources and undertake critical analysis; and
- Demonstrated networking and collaborative skills across a range of stakeholders.
Our ideal candidate would possess:
- Teaching and or education experience or an understanding of, and experience involving, Queensland's state schools.
- Proven experience in the delivery of adult professional learning
- A demonstrated strong ability to develop sensitive and practical responses to complex issues and the ability to provide advice to senior staff where issues of quality, timeliness, sensitivity and confidentiality are paramount.
- Other suitable duties, consistent with the duties and responsibilities of the position as directed by the supervisor or nominated delegate.
