The Assessment and Referral Team (ART), Specialist Disability Programs helps to maximise Queensland’s investment in the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) by supporting people with disability to access the scheme and the life changing services it provides. The project team works closely with the National Disability Insurance Agency, other Queensland Government agencies, people with disability, their families and carers and other key stakeholders to ensure a person centred approach is key to achieving positive outcomes for clients.

ART is a state-wide, multidisciplinary team that provides intensive case management and targeted clinical supports to eligible people with disability to support their NDIS application. In addition, a key focus of the team is building the capacity of government and the sector to successfully navigate the NDIS access process. The Clinician is responsible for providing effective, contemporary and evidence based clinical assessments and advice required to assist people with disability to access the NDIS and other disability supports, as well as referral to other relevant community services.

Your Responsibilities

As a clinician you will:

  • Undertake comprehensive specialist disability assessments (such as diagnostic and functional capacity assessments) and prepare evidence to support a person with disability to access the NDIS.
  • Prepare high quality reports, submissions, briefs and other documentation within specified time frames and in line with relevant practice and procedures.
  • Actively contribute to the end-to-end intensive case management approach to support a person with a disability to navigate pathways to the NDIS and key disability services, as well as referrals to other community services.
  • Maintain an active clinical caseload of individuals with complex needs
  • Work independently and collaboratively with colleagues, allied/health providers, education providers, family members and carers to support people with disability through the clinical assessments.
  • Provide support to the Senior Clinician and Manager on sector wide consultations for the Assessment and Referral Team and external providers.
  • Actively participate in multidisciplinary training and professional development activities to maintain and develop competencies to ensure that service delivery is of high quality and consistent with current trends and departmental objectives with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Assist to identify, design and implement procurement strategies from external clinical providers.
  • Create and maintain client records consistent with departmental and legislative requirements and maintain professional obligations.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to regular meetings and discussions with colleagues to inform future planning processes and strategies to meet the needs of vulnerable and marginalised people with complex disability support needs.
  • Contribute to program reporting systems and undertake reporting priorities as required.
  • Develop and deliver case studies and capacity building activities to share knowledge of learnings and business processes with key government and non government stakeholders.
  • Perform other tasks as required by senior leadership.


Your mandatory requirements

  • Degree qualifications in psychology and full general registration with the AHPRA.
  • Queensland Disability Worker Screening clearance.
  • Possession of a C class drivers' licence.
  • Frequent Intrastate travel will be required.
