As The Director, Property And Facilities, You Will

  • Provide timely, independent and well-informed strategic and operational advice on departmental accommodation, including owned and leased premises, minor works, motor vehicles, capital builds and other facilities services.
  • Manage a significant capital build program, ensuring its successful delivery within scope, budget and timelines.
  • Lead and coordinate development of a strategic portfolio planning framework for office accommodation which drives sustainable and cost-effective outcomes for the department.
  • Establish and oversee facilities, asset and fleet management, promoting effective and efficient resource management through development of robust policies, procedures, practices and systems within a risk-managed context, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and standards.
  • Prepare forecasts and financial reports for capital build budgets, as well as maintenance and upgrade budgets for outyears.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, contractors, and suppliers, to ensure alignment with departmental and whole of government goals and compliance requirements.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in property and facilities management practices, leveraging technology and data analytics to optimise performance and deliver value for money when managing the department's customer focused portfolio
  • Coordinate capital funding submissions and take responsibility for the department's current and forward office accommodation management programs.
  • Represent the department in key forums related to asset and facilities management and ensure implementation, monitoring and evaluation of relevant trends and developments.
  • Lead and cultivate high performing teams through effective leadership, empowerment of staff, supportive feedback on performance and promotion of professional development.


To thrive in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:

  • Proven ability to lead and inspire high-performing teams, drive organisational change, and deliver strategic outcomes in a dynamic and complex environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in property and facilities management in a government context, including accommodation planning, leasing, maintenance, capital works, and compliance with workplace health and safety and environmental sustainability standards.
  • Advanced skills in managing significant budgets, preparing financial forecasts, and delivering large-scale capital works programs within scope, budget, and timelines.
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and oversee policies, procedures, and governance frameworks that ensure compliance with legislation, regulations, and organisational objectives.
  • High-level analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex challenges, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement innovative solutions that optimise performance and deliver value for money.
  • In addition, this role requires the leadership capabilities of a Program Leader as outlined in the Leadership competencies for Queensland booklet.
