The Queensland Parliament is seeking a skilled Senior Parliamentary Officer to manage key tabling functions, support chamber operations, conduct procedural research and contribute to the effective functioning of the Legislative Assembly. This role offers variety, responsibility and the opportunity to support democratic processes at the highest level.

Do you have a passion for parliamentary process, procedural integrity and delivering high‑quality support at the heart of Queensland's democracy? Are you looking for a role that combines research, operational leadership and hands‑on involvement in the chamber?

The Queensland Parliament is seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Senior Parliamentary Officer to join the Table Office. This role offers a rare opportunity to contribute to the core business of the Legislative Assembly - supporting sittings, managing key parliamentary documents, and helping shape procedural practice in a dynamic and fast‑paced environment.

Key Objectives

  • Lead and manage the receipt, tabling, notification and dissemination of reports, statutory instruments and petition responses.
  • Provide accurate, timely procedural advice and undertake in‑depth research and analysis.
  • Support sitting day operations, including as a clerk at the table, and contribute to key parliamentary publications.

Your Role

  • Oversee all tablings, produce required notifications, and liaise with members, ministers, committees, agencies and the public.
  • Lead major tabling periods such as Budget week and Annual Reports, ensuring compliance with legal deposit requirements.
  • Research procedural issues, prepare papers and briefings, update internal precedents and contribute to procedural publications.
  • Compile and publish statistical information relating to the business of the Legislative Assembly.
  • Serve as a clerk‑at‑the‑table and prepare running sheets, procedural motions and chamber materials.
  • Assist with editing, checking and publishing parliamentary records, including the Notice Paper and Questions on Notice.
  • Ensure procedural accuracy in the Record of Proceedings and monitor compliance with Standing Orders.
  • Prepare procedural documentation such as draft motions, evidentiary certificates and condolence booklets.
  • Support the Bill to Act process and respond to inquiries from members, clients and the public.
  • Provide leadership within the Table Office, including mentoring and supporting team members.

What We're Looking For

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to deliver accurate advice under pressure.
  • Experience researching and analysing complex procedural or legislative issues.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to produce high‑quality written documents within tight timeframes.
  • Proven organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • High-level competency with Microsoft Office, web content systems and Adobe products.
  • Sound knowledge - or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge - of Queensland parliamentary procedures.
  • Tertiary qualifications are highly desirable. Eligibility and willingness to complete the ANZACATT Parliamentary Law, Practice and Procedure Course is strongly preferred.
