Council Overview
Belyuen Community Government Council provides a range of services to the remote community of Belyuen and the surrounding geographical region.
The shire is built off of the foundations of the former Dellisaville Mission. The township/administration centre is situated approximately 15 km south of Mandorah on the Cox Peninsula - which is approximately a 1 ½ hour drive from Darwin city.
The Belyuen Community Government Council is responsible for the delivery of the following services: Council Administration, Waste Management, Community Store & Service Station, Sport & Recreation, Aged Care & Disability Services, Cultural programs, Mechanical Workshop, Centrelink, income management as well as contracted works linked to major projects, construction and maintenance programs.
The overall vision of Belyuen Community Government Council is to provide sustainable, respected and vibrant leadership by forming strong partnerships within our community and advocating for regional and local issues. Principal Objectives
The Senior Administration Officer is responsible for general administrative work/tasks and coordination within Belyuen Councils Administration department. Core responsibilities include (but not limited to) fostering a pleasant work environment, ensuring efficient coordination of tasks, effective communication with peers, problem solving, dealing with conflict, maintaining information management systems, assisting with finance, IT and website coordination and attention to safety.
This position is covered by the Northern Territory Local Government Industry Award.
The Senior Administration Officers day to day responsibilities will include providing administrative support across various Council functions. Previous experience in Office Administration is highly desirable.
The Senior Administration Officer will possess a high-level of working knowledge and experience using standard office software (Microsoft suite of applications: Outlook, Word, Excel PowerPoint and Database functions). Also, experience working with Xero Finance software and SharePoint records management.
The Senior Administration Officer will demonstrate the ability that ensures the smooth running of the Council Administration Office and help initiate appropriate strategies and actions which improve business efficiencies.
Another objective of this position is to assist with the administration and delivery of Centrelink and Money Management Services.
The Senior Administration Officer assists the Council to meet its legislative responsibilities by:
Providing advice and support to the Corporate Services Manager in the delivery of Councils core business.
Liaising with and coordinating correspondence from stakeholders engaged in Local Government Business with Council.
Key responsibilities of the role
Assist the Corporate Services Manager and CEO with all administrative tasks required of a Local Government Council in the NT.
Assist Corporate Services Manager and CEO with the development and implementation of policies, procedures and ongoing review.
Oversee the Centrelink and Money Management program in Belyuen.
Provide HR support with position descriptions, training requirements, recruitment and employee contracts.
Provide support with payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable.
Liaise with BCGC Corporate Services Manager to assist with periodic update of the assets register.
Assist the Corporate Services Manager and CEO with Risk Management registers and internal control procedures.
Assist the Corporate Services Manager and CEO with all administrative functions including Council meetings, policies, procedures and registers etc are maintained on Council’s website in accordance with legislative requirements.
Perform all reasonable tasks allocated by the Corporate Services Manager.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential
Requirements for the role are but not limited to:-
Manage competing deadlines and balance priories under pressure with efficiency and professionalism.
Use initiative and problem solving techniques to ensure tasks are carried out efficiently and effectively.
Demonstrated ability to prepare documents with accuracy and attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to understand and interpret policy, legislation and governance matters.
Well developed word processing and computer application skills.
Ability to undertake research, write reports and communicate to a high standard.
Demonstrated ability to liaise with stakeholders and the public.
Highly developed time management skills – ability to establish priorities and to plan, coordinate and monitor own work place.
Sound understanding of Indigenous Culture and issues faced by disadvantaged Australians in remote communities.
Current drivers licence.
Knowledge of the principles of Work Health and Safety and ability to promote them in the workplace.
Desirable
A qualification in Local Government or relevant experience
Previous Local Government administration experience
