  • Position Location: Brisbane (Morningside Site
  • Start Date: Immediate start available - pending standard employment checks
  • Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time (38 hours per week)
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday
  • Additional Hours: Regular overtime available, paid with applicable penalty rates
  • Job Security: Solid pipeline of ongoing work through to the end of 2026
  • Pay Cycle: Weekly pay - every Thursday

The Opportunity

Austal has an opportunity for an experienced Industrial Painter. As part of the role, you will perform associated blasting, preparation and painting tasks within the shipyard environment on vessels and associated components / equipment, or other tasks on time, in full and to standard, while striving for continuous improvement. The Painter / Blaster is responsible for keeping themselves and their colleagues safe as well as maintaining a clean, tidy and productive work environment.

What’s Involved

  • Water blasting and abrasive blasting of hulls & structures
  • Sanding, masking & de-masking to vessels hulls & structures
  • Fill & fairing ships sides & hull repairs
  • Priming, undercoating, top coating of all paint systems to all surfaces
  • Airless spray painting & pot gun spraying to vessel hulls & structures
  • Brush and roller painting
  • Conduct fire & confined space watch as required and directed by Supervisor / Manager
  • Ensuring good housekeeping is practiced.
  • During periods of reduced trade specific works, assist in other trade-based sectors of the business as reasonably directed by Supervisors / Managers
  • Understand, embrace, implement and comply with all Austal Policies and Procedures relating to HSEQ

You’ll need

Essential

  • Relevant Trade Certification or industry experience.
  • Construction White Card
  • Protective Coatings Quality control.
  • Capable of performing work in a safe and acceptable manner.
  • Demonstrate adequate theoretical knowledge.
  • Ability to use standard tools and equipment related to the trade.
  • Possess good time management skills and ability to meet set targets.

Desirable

  • HR Licenses - Forklift / Confined Space / EWP
  • First Attack Fire Fighting Training / First Aid
  • Previous experience in Marine / Ship repair or Heavy Industry.
