Description:
Drifter is a growing hospitality group built for curious travellers, free spirits, and people who care about great spaces and great experiences. We run accommodation across Australia and New Zealand, and we’re building a business that’s connected, human, and designed to scale. As we grow, technology plays a bigger role in how our teams work, how guests experience our properties, and how we make smart decisions as a business. For the first time, we’re bringing in a Head of Technology to lead that journey.
The Opportunity
This is a senior leadership role with real scope and influence. As Head of Technology, you’ll be responsible for setting the Group’s technology direction and making sure it’s delivered well - from the systems our teams rely on every day, to the way data, security, and infrastructure support the business as we grow.
You’ll work closely with our executive team and operational leaders to turn business needs into practical, scalable technology solutions. Just as importantly, you’ll make sure technology change is rolled out properly - with teams supported, systems embedded, and outcomes that actually stick.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Owning and delivering the Group technology roadmap, aligned to business goals
- Leading system selection, implementation, and optimisation across operations, finance, HR, and guest-facing platforms
- Making sure new systems are implemented well, with strong change management, clear communication, and real user adoption
- Overseeing IT operations across properties and head office, including infrastructure, access, and support
- Driving integrations that reduce manual work and improve data flow
- Owning the Group’s cybersecurity approach, data protection, and technology risk
- Managing technology vendors, partners, and budgets with a commercial mindset
- Translating technical decisions into clear, practical advice for non-technical stakeholders
You’re an experienced technology leader who understands both the big picture and the practical realities of delivery. You care about building technology that works - for the business, for the team, and for the people using it every day.
You’ll Bring
- Significant experience in a senior technology leadership role (Head of Technology, Head of IT, Technology Lead, Engineering Manager, or similar)
- A strong understanding of APIs, system architecture, data pipelines, and automation
- The ability to translate business needs into clear, practical technology strategy
- Experience delivering technology change in real-world environments, with a focus on quality implementation and adoption
- A solid understanding of cybersecurity, data protection, and technology risk
- A commercial, pragmatic mindset with strong prioritisation skills
- Comfort working in fast-moving, evolving environments with competing priorities
- And just as importantly:
- A genuine interest in technology that makes life easier — for teams on the ground and for guests
- A curiosity-driven mindset and a willingness to challenge “this is how we’ve always done it”
This role comes with real scope, autonomy, and ownership. Alongside that, you’ll have:
- Competitive remuneration: Including a clear bonus structure aligned to impact
- Flexible work arrangements: This role is available fully remote, with a robust support structure
- Travel: Site and office visits across Australia and New Zealand as required
- Wellbeing support: EAP access and free annual flu vaccination
- Lifestyle support: Birthday leave, mates’ rates, and discounts on everyday brands
- Values-led culture: We care about people, place, and how we show up
If this role sounds like it’s the right place for you to land and you’ve got the skills and experience we need, we’d love to hear from you.
