This is a high-profile leadership opportunity to influence how contemporary environmental regulation is delivered, by balancing sustainable development with robust environmental stewardship, and providing confidence and certainty for communities, industry and government.
About The Role
As Executive Director, Energy, Extractive and Southwest Compliance in the Environmental Services and Regulation division, you will lead a critical branch at the forefront of environmental regulation that delivers assessment, oversight and compliance across one of Queensland's most dynamic and strategically significant regions.
You Will
- Lead branch-level planning and performance by prioritising and coordinating activity, and by contributing as a key member of the ESR Senior Management Team.
- Oversee end-to-end regulatory delivery across assessment and compliance, ensuring decisions are clear and defensible, and that regulatory responses are proportionate and consistent.
- Strengthen partnerships and credibility with senior stakeholders across industry (including petroleum and gas and other extractives), government and community, and serve as a visible escalation point for complex or sensitive issues.
- Drive continuous improvement and change to lift consistency, communication and stakeholder experience through better ways of working, systems, and governance.
- Build capability and culture by developing a high-performing, values-led workforce that brings sound judgement, professionalism, and purpose to frontline regulation.
You will bring:
- Sophisticated stakeholder engagement skills and political acumen, with the ability to influence across government, industry and community in high-profile, commercially sensitive operating environments.
- Experience working in, partnering with, or regulating the resources sector (petroleum and gas ideally but not essential) and/or adjacent heavy industry, with a strong environmental lens.
- A strong track record of executive leadership in dynamic, complex organisations, with the presence to engage and motivate teams across multiple sites.
- Demonstrated success leading service reform, operational improvement and change by lifting consistency, performance and stakeholder experience.
- A solid foundation in environmental expertise, combined with a comprehensive understanding of contemporary regulatory trends, drivers, and approaches, supported by strong implementation skills and business acumen to effectively manage risk and optimise value for money.
