Description:

The role will lead, manage and mentor a Financial Accounting team of up to six staff and operates at a senior level to provide expert financial advice and ongoing support to the Executive Director, Finance and the Director, Finance, along with other senior positions across the QAS; to ensure the financial needs of the organisation are achieved and to support the operational capability of the QAS.

We are seeking applicants who, within the context of the role responsibilities, possess the following key attributes:

  • Proven experience in leading a team of finance professionals to deliver high quality financial accounting services within a complex and geographically diverse organisational environment; with a demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service.
  • Highly developed conceptual, analytical and problem-solving skills and the proven ability to interpret and evaluate financial processes, systems and data to identify and deliver innovative solutions and drive performance improvement.
  • Demonstrated highly developed communication skills including the ability to articulate complex financial concepts and accounting issues, contribute to strategic planning, negotiate with influence and resolve conflicts.
  • Significant knowledge of relevant legislation, Australian accounting standards, public sector financial management standards, policies and processes; experience with financial information systems; and the ability to prepare and submit complex advice and briefings to senior management.
  • A demonstrated high-level attention to detail with the proven ability to work methodically, plan and prioritise tasks, manage workflows and achieve outcomes within allocated timeframes.
  • Demonstrated highly developed communication, negotiation, consultation and collaboration skills including the ability to prepare and write high level correspondence and presentations.


The following mandatory requirements, special conditions and/or other requirements apply to this role:

  • Whilst not mandatory, an experienced accountant with tertiary qualifications in accounting, commerce or business and membership or eligibility for membership to a professional accounting body will be highly regarded.
