Executive Director

Queensland Government
Brisbane Full-day Full-time

Description:

Strategic leadership role shaping Queensland’s multicultural policy, programs and community partnerships.

  • Lead Queensland’s multicultural policy, programs and grants portfolio
  • Partner across government and communities to drive equitable outcomes
  • Advance social cohesion and economic inclusion across the State

You’ll be joining a department guided by an unwavering commitment to equity, inclusion, and opportunity, and driven by measurable action, genuine partnerships, and listening to community voices.

Multicultural Affairs Queensland (MAQ) plays a critical role in fostering an inclusive, cohesive and culturally rich Queensland. As part of the Department of Women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships and Multiculturalism, MAQ works at the forefront of policy, community engagement and service reform to improve social and economic outcomes for culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

With a strong focus on equity, participation and belonging, MAQ partners across government and with communities to ensure that diverse voices inform decision making and that policy and services are culturally responsive and accessible.

About The Role

Reporting to the Deputy Director-General, the Executive Director leads MAQ and provides strategic direction across policy, programs, grants and community engagement. This role will work collaboratively with multicultural communities, peak bodies, Government agencies and, where appropriate, Federal counterparts to deliver evidence-based initiatives informed by lived experience and emerging community needs.

This role leads a multidisciplinary team responsible for shaping policy and influencing service delivery to strengthen inclusion and participation across Queensland. This is a highly visible leadership role requiring sound judgement and the ability to navigate complex and sensitive issues with confidence and integrity.

About You

You are an accomplished senior executive with experience leading strategy, policy and service delivery within government or a large, complex organisation. You bring a proven ability to operate at scale, balancing long-term strategic direction with disciplined execution and measurable outcomes.

You have deep capability in policy development, program oversight and community engagement, and understand how to translate evidence, data and lived experience into practical, whole-of-government solutions. You are comfortable navigating complex and sensitive issues, exercising sound judgement and political acumen while providing clear, trusted advice

Your leadership style reflects a genuine commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion. You demonstrate cultural responsiveness in both decision-making and service design, and you are motivated by improving outcomes for underrepresented and vulnerable communities. You build credibility quickly with stakeholders and are confident representing government at senior forums, advisory bodies and public engagements.

Above all, you are collaborative, values-driven and outcomes-focused. You foster high-performing teams and create environments where diverse perspectives are respected and harnessed to deliver meaningful and lasting impact.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a Queensland where multicultural communities are supported to thrive and call Queensland home.
