Your role within Building Policy will support the department to provide services relating to the built environment, such as setting policy and standards, administering legislation and codes, research and advice on industry trends, and partnerships with stakeholders to influence the direction of the building industry. As a Manager, you will contribute to the strategic management of the team and provide high level written and oral advice and assistance to the Director and Executive Director on matters relevant to Building Policy.
The role is critical for ensuring relevant Acts, regulations, legislation and standards are high quality, cost effective, contemporary and support quality outcomes for the State.
You will be required to undertake and manage research and policy development, develop materials for Executive Government's consideration, as well as review legislative drafting. In addition, you will need to lead meaningful stakeholder engagement strategies and activities.
This role would suit someone who enjoys being on the cutting edge of what the law is, and what it could be, and is able to effectively lead small, high performing teams in relation to delivering key projects.
What You Will Be Doing
- Manage diverse projects relating to policy and legislative reforms and reviews within agreed timeframes and budget to ensure project integrity is managed through project lifecycle
- Manage Cabinet, Executive Council, Parliamentary and legislative matters, and prepare high level documentation, including but not limited to Cabinet Submissions, Drafting Instructions, Executive Council Minutes, Explanatory Speech notes, Bill Books, Estimates Briefing Notes and Ministerial correspondence
- Instruct the Office of the Queensland Parliamentary Counsel on Bills and Regulations
- Represent the Department's interests and provide Building Policy leadership at State and national levels as required on forums, groups and committees
- Provide high-quality written and oral advice to the leadership team and stakeholders on:
- national building policy and legislation to facilitate improved decision making and advancing the interests of the State
- related legislation and standards, and impacts on industry and the community
- methods of implementing government policy objectives related to building and development
- Undertake and manage research in support of continuous improvement of Queensland building legislation and standards so they are aligned with national, international and built environment trends
- Develop and implement effective communication, engagement and consultation strategies for both internal and external stakeholders
- Promote and maintain a high performance and continuous improvement-oriented culture consistent with the Department's values, employment equity and workplace health and safety principles and practices.
