Description:

The Payroll Manager will serve as the onshore owner of the payroll function, providing governance, oversight, strategic direction and leadership to the offshore payroll team. You will drive payroll accuracy, compliance and process improvement across the onshore/offshore model as the organisation scales. This position offers autonomy, visibility and the ability to embed best‑practice payroll operations within a private‑equity backed, growth‑focused environment.

  • Lead and own the onshore payroll function, acting as the primary escalation point for all payroll matters
  • Provide leadership, quality oversight and KPI/SLA governance for the offshore payroll team
  • Review and approve pay runs, ensuring full compliance with legislation, awards/EBAs and internal standards
  • Strengthen governance, internal controls, audit readiness and documentation
  • Oversee statutory obligations including PAYG, superannuation, STP Phase 2, long service leave and payroll tax
  • Partner with Finance, People & Culture, Operations and retail leadership to support organisational growth
  • Deliver process improvement, mapping, automation and system optimisation
  • Lead payroll projects including system enhancements, integrations and onboarding for new retail sites
  • Produce accurate payroll reporting, reconciliations and insights for the CFO and senior stakeholders



Requirements:

  • Experience leading complex payroll operations
  • Strong knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, awards/EBAs and compliance requirements
  • Proven ability to uplift processes, controls and governance
  • Confidence reviewing and approving complex pay cycles
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and vendor management skills
  • A continuous improvement mindset and ability to drive performance
