Human Resource Services is responsible for providing professional advice and support to regional and state office managers and staff across the employee lifecycle including employee entitlements, Human Resource (HR) systems, establishment management and local recruitment and selection. The team also contributes to the design, development and delivery of HR initiatives, policies and resources to ensure compliance and best practice in alignment with whole-of-government, departmental and business unit needs.You will be a valued member of the team, working closely with staff, managers and decision makers to progress day-to-day human resource entitlements and activities. You will liaise with Queensland Shared Services (as provider of QFD payroll services) and subject matter experts to ensure timely innovative fit for purpose outcomes. You will also contribute to building HR capability across our diverse workforce through system support and continuous improvement of business processes and other resources.
With the opportunity to work across QFD's flexible work locations, this role allows you to contribute to the Queensland Fire Department from all fronts.
About Us
The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention, preparedness and response services to fire in the built and landscape environments, as well as scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities. The QFD provides a multi-hazard emergency response, including road crash rescue, bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue, severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and provides a number of functions supporting community safety outcomes.
The department encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR), Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ), as well as the broader department which work together to pre-empt, prevent, mitigate and manage the consequences of fires and other emergencies on Queensland communities and support our large volunteer membership across the state.

Responsibilities
Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:
- Provide timely and quality advice and support to employee and manager enquiries, to ensure effective application of HR policy, procedures and resources.
- Ensure the effective and compliant use of HR systems and program governance through user training, validation of documentation, establishment management, and records management.
- Maintain knowledge and awareness of HR practices, systems and resources to ensure compliance with current legislation, awards and departmental policies, procedures and standards.
- Liaise and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to understand business needs and ensure activities are delivered in a timely and efficient manner.
- Contribute to HR capability across the workforce through the design and implementation of (online and face to face) procedures, guidelines and resources, including recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Assist with the preparation of documentation and reports to support governance, compliance and evidence-based decision in accordance with departmental requirements.
- Participate in projects and working groups to ensure outcomes are delivered within agreed timeframes and meet business and client's needs.
- Actively participate in team cohesiveness and capability through professional development opportunities and promotion of a positive environment with ethical practices, workplace safety, equity, and diversity.
